Year 2 Goings On
The Gingerbread Man
In year 2 we have begun the year with a mini topic on The Gingerbread Man. The children enjoyed taking on the roles of the characters in the story and worked in groups to create their own play to show to the rest of the class. The children used lovely, loud voices and thought about what the characters would say and how they would be feeling.
Thinking about Numbers!
This week in our maths lessons we have been doing lots of practical activities using equipment to make numbers and then partition them into tens and ones. It has been fun using the equipment and we have demonstrated a really good understanding of number to Mrs Lister. She was very impressed with us!
Oh, we do like to be beside the seaside!
To support our geography topic, ‘Oh I do Like to be Beside the Seaside’, Year 2 went on a trip to Littlehampton Beach. The children built sandcastles, dug holes and enjoyed collecting water from the sea. After lunch, they all had an ice cream and went into the sea for a paddle – everyone got very wet due to all the splashing around, but we all thoroughly enjoyed it! What a brilliant day it was!
The Gingerbread Man
We have been using the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’ to inspire our writing, so we baked some gingerbread men. It was great fun mixing, weighing and smelling the ingredients! We carefully decorated them using icing and edible decorations. The best part was eating them though!
From St John’s to India
We designed and created our own batik art. We drew our design on material before using cantings to draw the design using hot liquid wax. We had to be very careful doing this. Once the wax was solid again, we painted our fabric using fabric paint. Mrs Lister then took them home to iron them, and as the wax melted, our patterns became clear again. The results were fantastic!
Eggs & Chicks & Ducks
For our science topic on animals, a lovely parent lent us their incubator and provided us with chick and duck eggs. We were extremely excited to see two of the ducklings hatching live! We had three ducklings and two chicks, although, unfortunately, one chick didn’t survive. The chick and ducks will be back to visit at the Summer Fair so we can’t wait to see what they look like now!
During our animal themed Book Week, we had a visit from Basil and Crew with their gorgeous farm animals! The children loved stroking, feeding and brushing the animals and particularly enjoyed feeding the lambs their milk – the lambs were so strong!
