Year 2 Goings On
In year 2 we have been learning about how to keep healthy. We undertook an investigation into whether anti-bacterial hand wash, just water or soap was the best for cleaning our hands. The children planned the investigation and then predicted what they thought would happen. They then enjoyed getting thoroughly mucky to test each cleaning product!
Whilst thinking about how the seasons change, the children went in search of as many different types of leaves as they could find in the environmental area. They looked carefully at the different shapes, structures and colours of the leaves they found. After that, they choose autumnal colours to do leaf rubbings which they cut out and used to create their own leaf collages.
Eggs & Chicks & Ducks
For our science topic on animals, a lovely parent lent us their incubator and provided us with chick and duck eggs. We were extremely excited to see two of the ducklings hatching live! We had three ducklings and two chicks, although, unfortunately, one chick didn’t survive. The chick and ducks will be back to visit at the Summer Fair so we can’t wait to see what they look like now!
The hall was transformed into a fairytale forest and year 2 were given the task of rescuing Tinkerbell from the evil Captain Hook. The children had a super morning of drama, acting as different characters and playing some fun games!
During our animal themed Book Week, we had a visit from Basil and Crew with their gorgeous farm animals! The children loved stroking, feeding and brushing the animals and particularly enjoyed feeding the lambs their milk – the lambs were so strong!
To support our geography topic, ‘Oh I do Like to be Beside the Seaside’, year 2 went on a trip to Littlehampton Beach. The children built sandcastles, dug holes and buried their feet. After lunch, they all had an ice cream (some children got messier than others!) and then we all went into the sea for a paddle – everyone got very wet due to all the splashing around, but we all thoroughly enjoyed it! What a brilliant day it was!
